On December 2nd, the Wellesley Chamber of Commerce hosted the first “Gala in the Gardens” Silent Auction. The party was a huge success with well over 200 in attendance. Maura O’Brien, President of the Chamber, declared that the evening “…exceeded our expectations!” She added, “It was one of the best fundraisers that the Chamber has held in many years.” A portion of the proceeds will benefit Wellesley Education Foundation (WEF). The Hunnewell Building at Elm Bank was abuzz all evening with party-goers shopping the 86 fabulous items in the silent auction. These included a week’s stay at a condo in Hawaii, an original oil painting, tickets to Celtics and Red Sox games, memberships to local fitness clubs, a night at the Copley with dinner and shopping, gift certificates to many Wellesley stores or services, etc. etc.. One successful bidder was overheard to say, “I can cross three people off my Christmas list tonight.” A highlight of the event was the drawing for the raffle item – a stunning pearl necklace with sapphire rondels donated by DePrisco Jewelers. Cheers rang out throughout the room when Susan Bevilacqua, a Pinnacle Realtor, announced that Susie McConchie, longtime Wellesley resident, won the necklace. The evening could not have taken place without the generous support of the many donors. A list of donors can be found on the Chamber’s website. It was a fun evening of mingling with friends, shopping for the holidays and supporting WEF's mission of educational excellence.
