Selling Your Home? Time to Declutter!
Will my possessions fit into this space? When selling your home, this is one of the most important questions you can answer for a prospective buyer. The old adage is true – ‘you never get a second chance to make a first impression’. If
you’re selling your home, it’s time to declutter. It’s a task we all dread. Even before you start sorting, tossing and donating, these five tips will set the stage for a successful clean-out.
1. Become inspired. See how beautiful your space could look. Check out your local container stores to get an idea of the helpful tools available to you. But don’t buy any containers until you’re sure of what you need – it may only add to the clutter. The HGTV shows on the subject simplify things a little, but they’ll help you visualize the transformation from a total mess to a well organized space.
2. Plan your attack: Garage sale, donation, storage, keep, toss? Everything you own should fall into one of these categories. Organizing the effort upfront will increase your odds of a successful outcome.
3. Focus. Don’t attempt too much at one time. Focus on a small section or room and limit the first few sessions to fifteen minutes or so. Take your time and don’t get overwhelmed or you’re likely to abandon the project before you even start.
4. Work to your strengths. Are you a night owl or a morning person? Do you need food or music? These small enhancements can be the difference between getting the job done and total failure.
