The opening of the new supermarket in Wellesley is quite an affair.

What’s new in Wellesley? The simple answer is the grand opening of the a new and improved Roche Brothers Supermarket in town. The market moved from their much smaller home to across the street into the new shopping complex called Linden Square. The grand opening appeared awesome in two ways. The store itself is a sight to behold. My friend and colleague Elaine Bannigan said it best when describing the fruit and vegetable department as a “jewel”. Every department is bigger and brighter at the supermarket. There is a giant natural foods section as well as tasty prepared food sections that bring joy to every mother in town.

What was equally impressive was the stream of shoppers who obviuosly made it a point to take time out of their busy schedules to tour the towns latest claim to fame. The store was brewing with excited shoppers. Some were locals scoping out their new territory, others seemed to travel from afar to witness this state of the art market that is reminiscent of an Italian grocer where presentation is such a big part of the business plan.

Roche Brother’s employees certainly seem to be proud of their new home. It seemed as if the entire company was on hand to meet and greet customers, offer help and ask for opinions of the new grocery store. It was somewhat refreshing to see so many people excited about one of the simpler things in this techno-crazy life of ours….food.  If it only takes a supermarket to infuse a little excitment in a town, then that is not such a bad thing!
