A “Packed Public Meeting” Reacts to National Development’s Preliminary Plans for Former Grossman’s Site in Wellesley, MA
National Development Proposes a Mixed-Use Project in Wellesley's Lower Falls
It has been over 12 years since the Grossman’s lot at 27 Washington Street in Wellesley’s Lower Falls was purchased by Stop & Shop. And, just who can follow all the dead-end negotiations with the town in the intervening years? Finally, there seems to be progress! National Development of Newton recently acquired the property. They presented their preliminary plans on September 6th to a crowded public meeting at Wellesley Town Hall.
According to the Wellesley Townsman blog, National Development’s plans call for a mix of retail, office space, and 150 rental units of which 20% will be affordable. “Public reaction to the proposal was mixed, but generally positive; a number of residents and town officials praised the plans…Many expressed concern over the increased traffic and parking issues…Others wanted to be sure that improved access to and conditions around the river, including rehabilatation of the railway bridge over the river, be included in the project.”
More public meetings will take place as these plans take shape - watch this space for notification.
