Is There an End in Sight for the Reconstruction of the Route 16 Bridge in Wellesley Hills?
Wellesley MA Board of Selectman Hear Resident Complaints About Detour
Finally, there seems to be hope for a finish to the construction on the Route 16 bridge over Route 9 in Wellesley Hills. Does anyone even remember how long this has been a disruption to the traffic pattern along Route 16 in the Hills?
The downside of this news is that, during construction, the Route 9 west ramp onto Route 16 will be closed and traffic will be detoured onto Cedar and Walnut streets (see map). A large number of residents turned out for the recent meeting of the Wellesley Board of Selectmen in opposition to this plan but no alternative could be found. According to the Boston Globe, “…town executive director Hans Larsen said the detour ‘will not have a significant impact’ on Cedar and Walnut streets traffic, a sentiment echoed by Police Chief Terrence Cunningham.” Also, Board Chairman Owen H. Dugan “… promised residents they would monitor the impact of the detour carefully.”
The Wellesley Police website reports today that the detour will begin August 5th when the Route 9 west ramp onto Route 16 closes Saturday night into Sunday morning.
