Wellesley is a Wonderful Place for Special Needs Children

A brief summary on Teri Adler's experience with the Preschool at Wellesley Schools or PAWS

I am a real estate agent, and I am also a mother. To be more specific, I am the mother of a special needs child. My 4 year old daughter, Alexandra, has developmental delays. Simply put, Alexandra is a wonderful, dynamic, charming little girl who just can’t run, walk or talk as smoothly as her peers.

We knew when we moved from  Boston we needed to find a school system that would fit her needs. Speech therapy, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy are a must have for us each week. We have found the perfect fit for Alexandra at PAWS. PAWS is the public integrated pre-school in Wellesley. Half of the children have some form of delays and the others who attend we lovingly refer to as the “typicals”. At PAWS Alexandra gets the help she needs to ensure her future is the best it can be. The school is in a wonderful brand new facility that has a warm and nurturing feel from the moment you walk inside. The teachers are all bright, energetic, highly educated and positive. There hasn’t been one day that my daughter has not run onto the bus, anxious to start her school day. Our younger daughter, Anna, who does not have delays will also attend PAWS next year.

If you’re thinking of moving to Wellesley, getting the information you need on the program can be tough. Many people want to move to Wellesley for the schools, and the amount of informational calls they get at PAWS is overwhelming. The school director will only talk to people who have committed to the town and have a Purchase and Sale to buy a home in town. My research was done through talking to other parents, and I hope now I can serve as that contact.
