NEEDHAM NIBBLES
Needham, MA Restaurants Offer Wide Variety in Dining Options
One of my favorite things about living in Needham is the great selection of restaurants. In fact, Needham seems to be in the running for the “restaurant capitol” of the Boston western suburbs. This was not always the case! When I first moved to Needham, 12 years ago, the selection of restaurants in town was dismal! Nowadays, you can sample fare from around the globe without ever leaving Needham. Listed below are some of my favorite restaurants in Needham:
American/Continental Fare
Not Your Average Joe’s - Great place to go with or without the kids for burgers, salad, brick oven pizza and a variety of nightly specials. Casual atmosphere with lively bar area. 105 Chapel Street, Needham Center. 781-453-9300
Fava Restaurant - A cozy spot for sophisticated “comfort food.” I love dining here on a cold winter night! Main menu selections change regularly and feature lamb, fish, meats, stews, all creatively prepared. 1027 Great Plain Avenue (tucked behind the Needham Center train station) 781-455-8668.
Quince - A newcomer to Needham. Bistro style dining in airy, loft-like surroundings. Serves pan-European cuisine. Menu offerings and prices comparable to many downtown Boston restaurants. Reservations recommended. 1019 Great Plain Avenue, Needham Center. 781-449-0022. Visit http://www.quincebistro.com/ to see their menus.
Blue on Highland - Needham’s newest and hottest restaurant serves up Modern American fare. Great menu selection and value in this trendy setting on Highland Avenue. The bar is spacious and lively in the evenings. Located at 882 Highland Avenue in Needham Heights 781-444-7001. Open daily at 11:30am and for Sunday brunch.
Italian
Sweet Basil - This small (10 tables), lively restaurant which is always busy serves up some of the best Italian cuisine around. Come early or wait!! BYOB. Open for lunch and dinner. Closed Mondays. 942 Great Plain Avenue, Needham Center. 781-444-9600. Cash Only.
Vietnamese
Pho Pasteur - Part of the popular chain offering Vietnamese cuisine and sushi. I love the noodle soup dishes (which are a meal in itself) with chicken, beef or seafood and vegetables. 66 Chestnut Street, Needham Center. 781-222-0272. Open for lunch and dinner.
Indian
Masala Art - Sample delicious Indian fare in this stylish restaurant located in Needham Center. Waiters are knowledgeable and always happy to make suggestions when ordering. Restaurant also has a handsome bar with large flatscreen televisions. 990 Great Plain Avenue, Needham Center. 781-449-4050.
Japanese:
Fuji Steak House - Bring the kids or come with friends for “dinner and a show” at this very popular Needham restaurant. Chefs skillfully prepare your meal at your table while you sit “in the pit” and enjoy the show. The restaurant also has a sushi bar which serves the freshest and most creative sushi platters around. 1430 Highland Avenue, Needham Center. 781-726-7658. Open for lunch and dinner. Reservations suggested.
After enjoying your meal in any of these restaurants be sure to stroll over to Caffe Mucca Blu for some outstanding homemade gelatos, sorbets and espresso. Located on the town square at 1498 Highland Avenue. 781-444-9530.
